Originally, we figured we would last all of seven minutes before we were banned by the Indian Government, or any other government for that matter in the name of good taste, even though governments never seem to specialize in that area. When that didn’t happen, we presumed we would last out seven months which was just about how far we could stretch the amount of money we had in the bank. However, we found several suckers…er…contributors, who were willing to write for us for free. So the seven months lingered on and on…till we arrive at the seventh year. Therefore, it is time to celebrate the number seven. Here’s our list of the sevens for 2005: 1. 7: The number of months Indians will remember the MPs who were taught on camera taking bribes to ask questions in Parliament. Remember Bangaru Laxman, anyone? Unless, of course, it is seven weeks. It will probably take seven years for their parties to throw them out. And their moronic constituents will reelect them for seven consecutive terms. Remember Kalpnath Rai, anyone? 2. 7: The number of Test matches Saurav Ganguly will be allowed to play for India before he is unceremoniously dumped, forever, even if the total number of runs scored by Gautam Gambhir in those seven matches is 7. Ganguly is out of luck and he’s headed for an unlucky seven. Also the number of months Rahul Dravid will remain captain before Bishen Singh Bedi wants him thrown into the Indian Ocean. 3. 7: The number of weeks the media will speculate about Amitabh Bachchan’s colon. Wait for the day when an enterprising television channel manages to get hold of footage of the next colonoscopy performed on him and airs it…then you’ll really understand the internal world of the Big B. 4. 7: The number of weeks that Laloo Prasad Yadav gets along with the Congress now that he is no longer the ruler of Bihar. However 7,000 years is the amount of time it will take Nitish Kumar’s Government to undo the mess that Laloo has made of the state. 5. 7: The number of terrorists Pakistan is sending across the border every minute, whether it is into India or Afghanistan. Seven is also the number of times Pervez Musharraf is going to claim he has survived assassination attempts. Also, the same number will apply to the number of Al Qaeda Number 2s that the Pakistan Government will claim to have arrested. 6. 7: The number of readers of Jaalmag.com who have sent in complimentary emails over the past 7 years. 7. 7: The number of readers of Jaalmag.com who have been institutionalized due to severe dementia.
